Real Madrid match days & when to book

Real Madrid play their home LaLiga and Champions League matches at the Bernabéu, and the renovated stadium also hosts concerts and other big events. LaLiga kickoff dates and times are usually confirmed only a few weeks ahead because of TV scheduling, so hotels around the Castellana can fill up quickly once a big fixture, such as a Clásico or a Champions League knockout game, is locked in. Book early, choose free cancellation, and adjust your dates once the official kickoff time is announced on Real Madrid’s website.

Walking distance to the stadium

  • Holiday Inn Madrid – Bernabéu – On a quiet pedestrian square directly across the Castellana from the stadium, with Santiago Bernabéu Metro station (Line 10) about a block away. The obvious pick for fans who want to walk out of the lobby and into the ground.
  • The Westin Madrid Cuzco – At Paseo de la Castellana 133, about 0.7 km (an 8-minute walk) from the Bernabéu. The former AC Hotel Cuzco reopened as a Westin after a major renovation, with 287 rooms including 44 suites. Good for couples and business travelers.
  • NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding – On Calle del Padre Damián, about 0.7 km (roughly 8 minutes on foot) from the stadium and 6 minutes from Cuzco Metro. A large, modern hotel that works well for groups and families.
  • Meliá Castilla – Around a 10-minute walk from the Bernabéu and about 200 m from Cuzco Metro. A big full-service hotel, handy if you want plenty of room choice on busy match weekends.

Best for rail and airport connections

  • Hotel Chamartín The One – Part of the Chamartín station complex, about 2.2 km from the stadium. Ideal if you are arriving or leaving by high-speed train, or taking the Cercanías C1 line to Terminal 4 at Madrid-Barajas.

Luxury in Salamanca

  • Rosewood Villa Magna – A five-star landmark at Paseo de la Castellana 22, on the edge of the Salamanca district and straight down the boulevard from the stadium. Best for a special-occasion trip that mixes a match with fine dining and shopping.

Getting there, shuttles & parking

  • Metro: Santiago Bernabéu station on Line 10 exits right by the stadium. Nuevos Ministerios (Lines 6, 8 and 10, plus Cercanías trains) is one stop south, roughly a 15-minute walk away.
  • Bus: EMT lines 14, 27, 40, 43, 120, 126, 147 and 150 stop near the stadium, plus night buses N22 and N24.
  • From Madrid-Barajas by Metro: Line 8 runs from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios (under 20 minutes from T4, about 12 minutes from T1-T3). Change to Line 10 for one stop to Santiago Bernabéu. A single ticket needs the €3 airport supplement on top of the normal fare.
  • Airport Express bus: A flat €5 fare, paid on board, running 24 hours between the airport terminals and Cibeles/Atocha. It is better for central hotels than for the Bernabéu.
  • Cercanías train: Line C1 links Terminal 4 with Nuevos Ministerios and Chamartín, with trains about every 20 minutes.
  • Taxi: Official taxis charge a fixed €33 between the airport and central Madrid. Use the official ranks outside the terminals.
  • Parking: Driving on match days is not recommended. Streets around the stadium get very congested before and after games, and the Metro is faster. If you do have a car, park it at your hotel and take the Metro.

Tips for a Bernabéu trip

  • Spanish matches often kick off late in the evening. A hotel within walking distance saves you from crowded Metro platforms after the final whistle.
  • Book a refundable rate before the kickoff time is confirmed, then lock in your nights once it is.
  • Not traveling on a match day? Take the stadium tour. The Tour Bernabéu entrance is at Gate 84 on Avenida de Concha Espina.
  • If you’re staying in the center, give yourself at least 45 minutes to reach the stadium on match days.
  • The Castellana hotels are popular with business travelers on weekdays, so weekend match stays can be better value.

Getting to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid

The Santiago Bernabeu, home of Real Madrid, is in the Chamartin district of Madrid on the Paseo de la Castellana, one of the city’s main avenues. According to the official Bernabeu Stadium website, the address is Avenida Concha Espina, 1, 28036 Madrid. The stadium site sends visitors to its Plan your visit page for transport details, and the Madrid tourist board, Esmadrid, repeats the same address. The stadium stands in a dense urban area, so the club and the city both encourage visitors to arrive by public transport rather than by car.

By metro, Real Madrid states that Line 10 serves Santiago Bernabeu station directly. The Community of Madrid’s Metro de Madrid has announced a project to extend and modernise this station, so entrances and layouts may change over time. Esmadrid also lists Santiago Bernabeu on L10 as the direct metro access to the stadium. Visitors coming from other lines can change onto Line 10 at an interchange station such as Nuevos Ministerios. For regional trains, Real Madrid says Cercanias Renfe services operate from Nuevos Ministerios station, listing lines C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-7, C-8, C-8a and C-10. Esmadrid likewise names Madrid-Nuevos Ministerios as the rail connection for the stadium. From there, passengers can continue on Line 10 of the metro to Santiago Bernabeu station. Esmadrid states that travel from central points such as Sol or Gran Via takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes by metro, which makes the stadium easy to include in a day of sightseeing.

For buses, the official stadium site says the municipal bus company EMT serves the area on lines 14, 27, 40, 43, 120, 126, 147 and 150, with stops including Paseo de la Castellana Santiago Bernabeu and Plaza de Lima. Esmadrid lists the same daytime lines and adds night lines N22 and N24. These night routes are useful after evening events when the metro has stopped for the night.

For cyclists, Real Madrid lists four BiciMAD bike sharing stations nearby. They are Paseo de la Habana (station 149), Paseo de la Castellana (station 150), Avenida del General Peron (station 153) and Calle Doctor Fleming (station 253). Esmadrid gives street numbers for the same docks, including Paseo de la Castellana 124, Paseo de la Habana 42, Calle del Doctor Fleming 7 and Avenida del General Peron 36.

On parking, the official Plan your visit page lists stadium parking information as coming soon, and the Esmadrid page does not give parking details. This means that no official parking rules or prices can be quoted here, and visitors driving into central Madrid should look for current information from the club before the day. The pages reviewed also did not set out accessibility arrangements, so visitors with reduced mobility should check the club’s FAQ or contact the stadium directly.

Transport lines, station works and event day arrangements can change. Please confirm all details on the official Real Madrid Bernabeu website and the Metro de Madrid website before you travel.

How we checked this guide

The “Last updated” date at the top of this page is when we last reviewed it end to end.

  • Parking rates, shuttle fees and transport times are taken from the port’s, venue’s or operator’s own published pages and from each hotel’s own website — not from aggregator sites.
  • Distances and journey times are the figures the venue or transit operator publishes, not our estimates. Where we give a distance, we say what it is measured to.
  • Hotel amenities (breakfast, shuttle hours, pet and parking policies) come from each hotel’s own site. These change more often than anything else here, so confirm them when you book.
  • Room rates are deliberately not listed anywhere on this site. They move daily, and a price written one month is wrong the next. Our links take you to live pricing instead.
  • We have not stayed at every hotel we write about. Where we contacted a property directly, the guide says so and gives the date. Where a figure comes from a third-party report rather than an official source, we say that too.
