Festival & Major Event Hotels: Where to Stay (2026–27 Guide)

Event hotels follow different rules

A hotel in Indio in March is an ordinary desert hotel. The same room on Coachella weekend has a minimum-stay requirement, an official shuttle stop in the car park, and a price that bears no relation to the rest of the year. Fourteen events, fourteen versions of the same transformation.

Three rules hold across almost all of them, and they are the reason most people overpay:

  1. Book refundable before you know if you are going. For the Masters you book before the lottery result. For the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl you book before the matchup is set, weeks before kickoff. For the London Marathon you book before organisers tell you which of the two days you run. Cancelling a free booking costs nothing; finding a room after the announcement costs a great deal.
  2. Expect a minimum stay. Three or four nights is standard at the Final Four, two or three at the Derby, multi-night packages with prepayment at Monaco, and official Coachella hotel packages have typically run three or four nights.
  3. The official shuttle usually beats driving. Nine of these fourteen events run one, and at several the alternative is a 25-minute walk from a rideshare lot.

The four events where you should book right now

Some of these dates are fixed and far enough out that a refundable booking today costs nothing and protects you completely.

The Masters, 8–11 April 2027. The only event here where the course bans mobile phones outright, and the only one where you should book before you have any idea whether you got tickets. Lottery prices run $125 for Monday and Tuesday practice, $150 Wednesday and $160 for tournament days. Hotels on Washington Road sit 1.2–1.5 miles out; some require minimum stays for tournament week.

London Marathon, 24–25 April 2027. This is the one and only time the race runs over two days, with a record 100,000 runners — men’s elite Saturday, women’s elite and wheelchair races Sunday. Organisers assign your day. Do not book a non-refundable night until you know which one you have.

Kentucky Derby, 1 May 2027 (Oaks on 30 April). Over 150,000 people. Book months ahead and expect a two- or three-night minimum. On-site parking permits typically go on sale around November and sold out in 2026.

Coachella, 9–11 and 16–18 April 2027. Weekend 1 sells out first. The shuttle pass is $150 for unlimited rides across the weekend and stops at a fixed list of hotels including the Hampton Inn & Suites Indio, La Quinta Resort and the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells — so check the stop list before you book, because the hotel you choose decides whether the pass is useful.

Shuttles: what each one actually costs

The spread here is wider than most people expect, from free to $150:

  • Austin City Limits — free for wristband holders, from Republic Square, running from 11:30am daily. There is no parking at Zilker Park or in the surrounding neighbourhoods at all, so this is not optional.
  • Tomorrowland — free De Lijn buses ran between Boom station and DreamVille, and from Mechelen on line 50 with no intermediate stops, about 20 minutes. SNCB also sells a discounted event round-trip.
  • Miami Grand Prix — free “Hard Rock Stadium Connect” from Aventura Station, departing about 10 minutes after each Brightline train, plus free shuttles from Lot 15/16 and Lot 70 roughly every 10 minutes.
  • Kentucky Derby — free from the Kentucky Exposition Center for frontside ticket holders, with KEC parking included. Expect 30–60 minutes in the return queue.
  • Orange Bowl — $10 park-and-ride at Lot 70 or Lot 95, with free shuttles from about three hours before kickoff until 75 minutes after.
  • Coachella — $150 for the weekend shuttle pass, unlimited rides.

Five details that catch people out

Copley station closes on Marathon Monday. At the Boston Marathon, Copley was shut all day in 2025 and the same is expected in 2027. Use Arlington, Prudential, Hynes or Back Bay instead. Athlete buses to Hopkinton load on Charles Street between Boston Common and the Public Garden.

Rideshare can drop you a 25-minute walk away. At the Orange Bowl, rideshare drop-off has been at Lot 44, roughly 25 minutes on foot from the stadium. At the Miami Grand Prix, Lot 21 is about 0.8 miles out and Lot 43 about 1.3 miles — and you must use the same lot for drop-off and pickup.

Hotel guests cannot enter DreamVille. Tomorrowland‘s campsite is sold only as part of festival packages. The last regular trains and buses can also leave before the music ends, which is the single most important thing to check if you are staying in Antwerp or Brussels.

Your phone will not work at the Derby. Cell networks overload on race day at Churchill Downs. Charge a power bank and agree a meeting spot before you go in. Central Avenue closes on both Oaks and Derby days.

One Tokyo hotel is closed. The Tokyo Marathon guide warns off Hotel Century Southern Tower, shut for renovation until spring 2028 — it still appears in older marathon guides. Bib pickup is at Tokyo Big Sight South Halls, 4–6 March, closing at 18:00 on the 6th, with no race-day collection.

Where the cheap option is genuinely better

At three of these events, the budget choice is also the smarter one.

Monaco: Monaco hotels often sell race weekend only as a multi-night package with strict minimums and prepayment. Beausoleil borders Monte-Carlo and is a ten-minute walk to the Casino area. Nice is 20–25 minutes by TER at €6.10 one way, with about 65 round trips a day. Note 2027 is Monaco’s first Sprint weekend, so plan a Thursday or Friday arrival for all three days.

Miami: Aventura is six miles out but half a mile from Brightline, and the stadium shuttle is free with your train. That is a car-free weekend at a fraction of the stadium-adjacent price.

Lollapalooza: street closures make parking near Grant Park very hard and rideshare pickup can be several blocks out. A Loop hotel at a 5–15 minute walk beats a Michigan Avenue park view you will pay a premium for and barely use.

Two bowl games, two days apart

The College Football Playoff semifinals fall on consecutive days in January 2027, and they behave very differently.

The Sugar Bowl is at the Caesars Superdome on Thursday 15 January, kickoff 6:30pm CT. New Orleans is the easier of the two: the CBD starts next door to the dome and runs out to about half a mile, the French Quarter is a 15–25 minute walk, and the Rampart–Loyola streetcar stops on Poydras for $1.25 one way or $3 for a day pass. The Hyatt Regency is next door. Superdome garages are card-only.

The Orange Bowl is at Hard Rock Stadium on Wednesday 14 January, kickoff 7:30pm ET, and no hotel there is truly walkable. Aventura and Hallandale sit about six miles out, 15–20 minutes by car. Mid-January is peak South Florida season, so the baseline price is high before the game adds anything.

For both: book refundable now, then adjust once the bracket is known. If your team is in either, you will be competing with an entire fanbase that found out the same week you did.

How we put this together

Every figure comes from one of our fourteen event guides, which take shuttle costs, transit fares and parking rules from the event’s, venue’s or operator’s own published pages, with the date we checked recorded. Where 2027 details are not yet announced, we say so and cite the most recent confirmed year rather than guessing — several of these events had not published 2027 session times or transport plans when we last checked.

Room rates appear nowhere on this site, because on an event weekend they move faster than we could update them. We earn a commission if you book through our links, at no extra cost to you, and it never changes which hotels we recommend. See our affiliate disclosure.
