Last updated: October 24, 2026 · By Ronen, Stay Near The Venue
Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam still played on grass, and for two weeks every summer the quiet south-west London suburb around the All England Lawn Tennis Club (Church Road, London SW19 5AE) becomes one of the busiest places in the city. Rooms within walking distance are few and they go early. This guide covers where to stay for Wimbledon 2027, from Wimbledon Village to Putney, Richmond and District line hotels in central London, plus how the Queue, the shuttle bus and parking work.
Quick answer: To walk to the gates, stay in Wimbledon Village (the Dog & Fox is about 15 minutes’ walk from the club) or near Wimbledon station. For more choice and lower prices, stay in Putney, or anywhere on the District line in west London, and ride to Southfields, about a 15-minute walk from the grounds according to the official Wimbledon help centre. Richmond is a smart, leafy option if you want riverside evenings after play.

Getting there, shuttles & parking
Tube and rail: According to the official Wimbledon help centre, Southfields (District line) is a 15-minute walk to the grounds, Wimbledon station (District line, South Western Railway and London Trams) is about 20 minutes, and Wimbledon Park (District line) is about 25 minutes. Use a District line train signed for Wimbledon. During the Championships, Southfields is the busiest station and the natural stop for the Queue.
Shuttle bus: The Wimbledon help centre says a dedicated Championships bus runs between Wimbledon station and the grounds. Fares are £3.80 single and £5.90 return, and return buses leave from outside Gate 11a on Somerset Road. Check fares again before 2027.
Taxis: Per the official help centre, taxi ranks operate at Southfields station, Wimbledon station, Church Road opposite Gate 4 (in Wimbledon Park) and Somerset Road at Gate 12.
Parking: The official car parks do not sell spaces on the day, except at the Park & Ride in Morden, so you have to book ahead. Residential streets around SW19 have tight controls during the fortnight. Private driveways near Southfields can be booked through apps such as JustPark. For most visitors, the District line is much easier than driving.
The Queue: Wimbledon still sells a limited number of on-the-day show court tickets and Grounds Passes through the Queue, which has traditionally formed in Wimbledon Park next to the club. According to the official Queue Guide, you collect a numbered, dated Queue Card when you join, which you keep until you buy your ticket. Overnight camping is allowed in two-person tents only. Southfields is the closest station.
Tips for Wimbledon 2027
- Book a free-cancellation room as soon as you know your dates, then cancel if the ballot doesn’t go your way.
- If you plan to queue overnight, a Southfields or Putney base makes going back to your room for a shower practical.
- The middle Saturday and finals weekend are the most expensive nights, so book those first.
- Allow extra time at Southfields after play: the station uses queuing systems at peak times.
- Pack layers and a light rain jacket. Even in July, evenings on outside courts can turn cool.
