Mercedes-Benz Stadium is in downtown Atlanta, next to Centennial Olympic Park and the convention district. It holds about 71,000 people, home to the Falcons and Atlanta United, plus major concerts and championship games.
Quick answer: stay downtown around Centennial Olympic Park to walk to the stadium in 5–15 minutes. Midtown is a good, often cheaper alternative with a short MARTA ride.

Getting there by MARTA
- The closest station is SEC District on the Blue and Green lines. It used to be called GWCC/CNN Center and was renamed in December 2025, so older guides may still use the old name.
- Vine City station is the alternative on the west side of the stadium.
- From the airport or Midtown, change at Five Points.
Tips
- Hotels near the stadium fill fast on SEC Championship weekend and big concert dates. Book as soon as you have tickets.
- MARTA is usually faster than driving and parking downtown on event day.
MARTA stops, fares and rideshare
The stadium’s official transportation page names two MARTA rail stops: SEC District Station (formerly GWCC/CNN Center), the preferred stop right at the stadium, and Vine City Station as the alternative. Both are on the Blue and Green lines, with walks of roughly 5 to 10 minutes. If you are coming from a north-south line, transfer at Five Points. The MARTA fare is $2.50 each way, and tap-to-pay with a bank card or mobile wallet is accepted.
Parking is bought online through the stadium’s parking portal. The stadium lists two rideshare zones: Zone 1 at GWCC Bus Lane C, best for Gate 1, and Zone 2 on Broad Street in South Downtown, best for Gates 2 to 4 with quicker access to the airport and interstate. A free bike valet is offered on event days between Gates 3 and 4.
Downtown, Midtown or Buckhead?
The stadium sits between Vine City, Castleberry Hill and Downtown, close to State Farm Arena, the Georgia World Congress Center, CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park. Downtown is the closest base and is walkable in about 10 to 15 minutes. Midtown has direct MARTA access in roughly 10 to 15 minutes and many restaurants, while Buckhead is quieter and more upscale with a longer MARTA ride of about 20 to 30 minutes.
Major events 2026-27
Events listed on the stadium’s official schedule include Georgia vs. Florida on October 31, 2026, the SEC Championship on December 5, 2026, and the Celebration Bowl on December 12, 2026. Harry Styles is listed for May 21 and 22, 2027. Check the official events page for the latest dates, since schedules change.
Packing and timing for event day
Keep your event-day kit simple. The stadium publishes a bag policy on its official site, so read it before you pack and leave anything prohibited at the hotel. Carry a charged phone, a payment card, your ticket saved offline in case of poor signal, and a light layer for the walk in and out.
Aim to reach the area well before the start so that security lines do not rush you, and decide on a meeting point with your group in case you are separated. After the event, give the crowds a little time to thin out, since a short wait for a meal nearby is often faster than joining the first rush onto trains or rideshare pickups.
Choosing between Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is in downtown Atlanta, so the closest hotels are in and around Downtown, where you can reach the stadium on foot or with a short transit ride. Downtown suits travellers who want simplicity on event day and easy access to nearby attractions, though the area can feel quieter in the evening outside of events.
Midtown offers a more neighbourhood feel, with restaurants, arts venues and parks, and it is connected to Downtown by the MARTA rail system. Buckhead is further north and known for shopping and dining, and it makes more sense if you are combining the trip with a longer stay or business. Choose by priority: closeness and convenience point to Downtown, atmosphere points to Midtown, and a polished upscale base points to Buckhead, with a longer ride in and out.
Booking strategy for big Atlanta event weekends
Atlanta hosts conventions, football games and concerts, and hotel demand downtown can jump when several happen at once. If your dates are fixed, reserve a refundable rate promptly and review it every so often. Prices can move in either direction, and a refundable booking lets you take advantage of drops without risk.
Always check cancellation deadlines, parking charges and any fees not shown in the headline rate. Downtown hotels often charge for parking, so if you are driving, factor that into your comparison. If you are relying on MARTA or walking, a hotel with no parking may be a better value than one with parking that you do not need.
Arrival and departure day planning
Arriving by air means you will reach the city by MARTA, taxi or rideshare, and you should decide beforehand which suits your luggage and schedule. If you arrive before check-in time, ask the hotel about bag storage so you can head out without your suitcases.
On the way home, remember that departures after a large event are slow, and that airport and rail services may be busy. If you have an early flight the next morning, check how long the journey to the airport takes at that hour and plan your hotel choice with that in mind. A later departure the day after the event is usually much more relaxing.
Things to see around the stadium
Downtown Atlanta has a compact cluster of well-known attractions near the stadium, including Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola and the College Football Hall of Fame. Check each attraction’s official site for opening hours, ticketing and any closures before planning your day around it, since hours and prices change.
A sensible approach is to choose one or two of these for the day before or the morning of your event, rather than trying to see everything. Centennial Olympic Park is a pleasant open space for a relaxed walk, and its proximity to the stadium makes it easy to combine with a pre-event meal.
Accessibility, families and solo travellers
If anyone in your group needs step-free access, ask the hotel about accessible rooms and elevators, and check the MARTA and stadium accessibility information ahead of time. Planning in advance avoids surprises on a day when crowds are heavy.
Families should think about the late finish and crowds, and may prefer a hotel within walking distance so that children are not on a long journey late at night. Solo travellers should choose a hotel with a simple, well-lit route from the stadium or station and should plan the journey home before the event starts, rather than working it out in a crowd.
Mistakes to avoid on an Atlanta trip
The most common mistake is assuming that everything is walkable. Distances between neighbourhoods are larger than they appear on a map, so check the real route and whether it is comfortable at night. Another is booking a cheap room without checking fees, parking and the location, which can turn a bargain into an inconvenience.
Visitors also underestimate how long it takes to enter and leave a major stadium. Arrive early, know your gate, and read the stadium’s bag policy before packing. And finally, do not leave your return plan to chance: knowing your route and your last available train or ride home removes a lot of stress.

How we checked this guide
The “Last updated” date at the top of this page is when we last reviewed it end to end.
- Parking rates, shuttle fees and transport times are taken from the port’s, venue’s or operator’s own published pages and from each hotel’s own website — not from aggregator sites.
- Distances and journey times are the figures the venue or transit operator publishes, not our estimates. Where we give a distance, we say what it is measured to.
- Hotel amenities (breakfast, shuttle hours, pet and parking policies) come from each hotel’s own site. These change more often than anything else here, so confirm them when you book.
- Room rates are deliberately not listed anywhere on this site. They move daily, and a price written one month is wrong the next. Our links take you to live pricing instead.
- We have not stayed at every hotel we write about. Where we contacted a property directly, the guide says so and gives the date. Where a figure comes from a third-party report rather than an official source, we say that too.
