Where to Stay Near Walt Disney World: Best Areas & Hotels for Every Budget

Last updated: October 25, 2026 · By Ronen, Stay Near The Venue

Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida is huge: four theme parks, two water parks and Disney Springs spread over about 43 square miles. Where you stay decides how much time you spend on buses instead of rides.

Quick answer: for value with easy park access, pick a Skyliner resort (gondola to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios). For a cheaper non-Disney hotel that still gets early park entry, look at the Disney Springs Resort Area.

Early park entry: why location matters

Guests at all Disney resort hotels can enter every theme park 30 minutes early each day. Several non-Disney hotels in the Disney Springs Resort Area also qualify, which can make them a smart way to save money. Extended evening hours are only for Deluxe-level guests.

How Disney resort transportation works

Disney resort guests get free transportation across the property. Buses run to all four parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios), the two water parks, Disney resorts and Disney Springs. The Monorail links Magic Kingdom, the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian resorts. Boats serve select resorts, and the Skyliner gondola connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century and Riviera. Disney lists transportation as running from 45 minutes before park opening to one hour after closing.

Disney has said the Skyliner is closed for refurbishment January 24–30, 2027, with buses as the alternative. See Disney’s transportation page for current details.

Staying off-site: how you get to the parks

Disney buses are for Disney resort guests. If you stay elsewhere, Disney says Good Neighbor Hotels offer transportation to the theme parks, though a fee may apply, so confirm with the hotel. Otherwise plan on driving, a rideshare or a private transfer.

Parking at Walt Disney World

Disney lists standard parking at $35 per day, preferred parking at $50–$60 per day depending on season, and oversized vehicles at $40, with one daily pass valid at all four parks. Disney resort guests park free at the theme parks, and parking at Disney Springs and the water parks is free for everyone. Prices change, so check Disney’s parking page before you go.

Perks of staying on-site

  • Early Theme Park Entry: Disney lists entry 30 minutes before opening each day for resort guests, at all four parks, with valid admission.
  • Extended Evening Hours: offered only to guests of Deluxe resorts and Deluxe Villas on select nights at select parks.
  • Dining and Lightning Lane windows: resort guests can book dining 60 days ahead and buy Lightning Lane passes 7 days ahead, compared with 3 days for other guests.

Disney says these perks run through 2027, but offers change, so confirm before you book.

What’s on at Walt Disney World, 2026–27

  • EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival: August 27–November 21, 2026 (included with park admission)
  • Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: select nights November 8–December 22, 2026 (separate ticket)
  • Disney Jollywood Nights: select nights November 7, 2026–January 5, 2027 (separate ticket)
  • EPCOT Festival of the Holidays: November 27–December 30, 2026 (included with admission)

Holiday weeks are among the busiest of the year, so book hotels and dining as early as you can.

Before you travel: three things worth booking ahead

Airport to hotel. If you land at Orlando International, a pre-booked private transfer (Welcome Pickups or Kiwitaxi) gives you a fixed price and a driver waiting at arrivals.

Bags between checkout and your day out. Radical Storage lets you leave luggage for a few hours when checkout and check-in do not line up.

If you have an extra day. Browse attraction tickets on Tiqets or tours and tickets on Klook before you go.

Tips

  • Plan your must-do park first, then pick a hotel on the transport line for that park.
  • The Skyliner can pause in storms, so leave extra time on rainy afternoons.
  • Prices drop sharply outside school holidays; flexible dates save the most.

Choosing between a Disney resort and an off-site hotel by priority

The best base at Walt Disney World depends on what you are optimizing. If you want the least friction on arrival and departure days, an on-site resort keeps you inside Disney transportation and avoids the daily question of how you will reach each park. If your priority is room size, a kitchenette or a lower nightly rate, an off-site hotel or vacation rental often gives you more room for the money, and you can accept a slightly longer morning routine in exchange.

Think about how many park days you are planning. A short trip of two or three park days rewards staying close, because every wasted morning is a meaningful share of the visit. On a longer trip with rest days, a bit of distance matters less, and the savings can pay for a separate day at Disney Springs or a pool day. Travelers who plan to leave the property for groceries, other attractions or restaurants usually find that having their own car and an off-site base works well; those who plan to live inside the Disney bubble usually do not.

Booking strategy and free-cancellation rates

Walt Disney World is one of the most booked destinations in the world, and the best-located rooms tend to go first around school holidays and major events. Book early enough to have choices, but favor rates that allow free cancellation so you are not locked in. Free-cancellation rates let you secure a room, then keep watching. If a better room or a lower rate appears, you can rebook and cancel the original without penalty.

Always read the cancellation deadline, not just the label. Some rates are free to cancel only until a set number of days before arrival, and some are prepaid with strict terms. Take a screenshot of the cancellation policy at the time of booking, and add the deadline to your calendar. Check what is included in the nightly price too, because resort fees, parking charges and similar extras vary by property and are the most common reason a cheap-looking rate ends up costing more than expected.

Arrival and departure day planning

Orlando airport arrivals are rarely smooth at peak times, and hotel check-in is usually in the afternoon. Plan for the fact that your room may not be ready when you arrive. Ask the hotel whether it will hold your luggage at the front desk and let you use the pool or lounge areas until check-in, so you can start your vacation without waiting in a lobby.

On departure day, check your flight time against the hotel checkout time and the distance back to the airport. Leave generous margin for traffic and rental-car returns, and decide the night before whether you will do a final park visit or head straight out. Pack a small day bag with essentials such as chargers, medications, a change of clothes and sunscreen, so you can leave the main luggage with the bell desk if you want a last morning in the parks.

Mistakes to avoid when choosing where to stay

The most common mistake is judging a hotel by its distance on a map. Walt Disney World is spread over a very large area, and a hotel that looks close may involve a long drive, a transfer to a different bus or a walk through a large parking lot. Check actual transportation options for the specific property and the specific park you most want to visit.

Another frequent error is overpacking each day. Plan one park per day, build in a midday break at the hotel if you have children, and do not book a room so far from the parks that a rest stop becomes impractical. Finally, confirm any accessibility needs directly with the hotel before booking, including ground-floor or near-elevator rooms, roll-in showers and distance from the room to the bus stop, rather than relying on a general listing.

How we checked this guide

The “Last updated” date at the top of this page is when we last reviewed it end to end.

  • Parking rates, shuttle fees and transport times are taken from the port’s, venue’s or operator’s own published pages and from each hotel’s own website — not from aggregator sites.
  • Distances and journey times are the figures the venue or transit operator publishes, not our estimates. Where we give a distance, we say what it is measured to.
  • Hotel amenities (breakfast, shuttle hours, pet and parking policies) come from each hotel’s own site. These change more often than anything else here, so confirm them when you book.
  • Room rates are deliberately not listed anywhere on this site. They move daily, and a price written one month is wrong the next. Our links take you to live pricing instead.
  • We have not stayed at every hotel we write about. Where we contacted a property directly, the guide says so and gives the date. Where a figure comes from a third-party report rather than an official source, we say that too.
