Mardi Gras 2027 New Orleans: Where to Stay Near the Parade Route

Last updated: October 24, 2026 · By Ronen, Stay Near The Venue

Mardi Gras 2027 in New Orleans comes early. Fat Tuesday falls on February 9, 2027, so the busiest parade week runs straight into early February, and rooms on or near the St. Charles Avenue route sell out first. This guide covers which neighborhoods work for parade-goers, real hotels on and near the route, and what streetcar service and parking actually look like during Carnival.

Quick answer: If you want to walk out of your hotel onto the parade route, stay on St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District/Uptown (The Pontchartrain, Hotel Indigo Garden District, The Chloe) or in the CBD near Canal Street (Hilton New Orleans St. Charles Avenue, InterContinental, Sheraton, Marriott). Pick the French Quarter for nightlife and the Marigny for something calmer. Don’t count on the St. Charles streetcar during parade season, and don’t plan to drive.

Mardi Gras 2027 dates: book early, keep free cancellation

Per New Orleans & Company, the official tourism office, Carnival season starts on Twelfth Night, January 6, 2027. Parades roll on selected days from then on. The biggest parades run every night from February 3 to Fat Tuesday on February 9, with Lundi Gras on February 8. Ash Wednesday, February 10, ends the season.

Most hotels on the route set minimum stays and charge peak rates for the final weekend. Book as soon as you know your dates, and choose a rate with free cancellation so you can switch if something better opens up. Krewe schedules and routes can change, so check the official parade schedule closer to the time.

Best areas to stay for Mardi Gras 2027

The main Uptown parades start near Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street. They then run down St. Charles Avenue toward downtown and finish on Canal Street. Where you stay along that line decides your whole trip.

AreaDistance / walk timeBest for
Garden District / Uptown (St. Charles Ave)On the routeFamilies, classic Uptown parade viewing
CBD / Warehouse DistrictOn or a few blocks from St. Charles and CanalEasy parade access, restaurants, nightlife
French QuarterAbout 5 minutes’ walk from Canal Street at its upper endAdults, Bourbon Street, walking parades
MarignyRoughly 30 minutes’ walk to Canal StreetQuieter base, Frenchmen Street music
MetairieDriving distance; has its own parade route on Veterans Memorial BoulevardLower rates, suburban parades, travelers with cars

New Orleans & Company recommends the Uptown stretch of St. Charles between Napoleon and Jackson Avenues for families, because the crowds there are more relaxed than downtown. Metairie’s parades in Jefferson Parish are a separate, more local scene. Metairie hotels are worth a look if New Orleans prices are out of reach.

Best value for families

Getting there, shuttles & parking

Streetcar: Don’t build your plans around the St. Charles streetcar. During the 2026 season, per the New Orleans RTA (norta.com), the St. Charles line was de-energized for the rest of parade season. Buses covered the route until crowds made it unsafe, and a shuttle bus ran between St. Charles & Valence and Loyola & Common. Streetcar service only resumed after Mardi Gras. Expect a similar setup in 2027 and check the RTA’s Mardi Gras service page before you go. You can buy fares in the Le Pass app.

Parking: Per the City of New Orleans parking rules, cars parked on a parade route within 2 hours of a parade’s start can be towed. So can cars parked next to a neutral ground (the grassy median). Parking at meters covered with yellow special-event bags carries a $40 fine. Towing starts at $161.25 plus extra fees, and New Orleans Towing Service can be reached at 504-658-8100. New Orleans & Company advises asking your hotel about parking and arriving well before night parades, because roads close once the parades are rolling. Walking is usually the fastest way around. Rideshare works but surge pricing is common.

Mardi Gras tips

  • Per NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness office, you can’t set up chairs, ladders or coolers on the public right-of-way more than 4 hours before a parade.
  • Ladders must be free-standing, no taller than 6 feet and at least 6 feet back from the curb. Anything left overnight is thrown away.
  • Tents, canopies, generators, open flames, confetti guns and pets (other than service animals) are banned on the route.
  • Families do best Uptown between Napoleon and Jackson Avenues. Adults after nightlife should stay near Canal or in the French Quarter.
  • Check each krewe’s route map, because some parades use different routes.
