Tampa is one of the easiest cruise ports in the country to reach from the airport. Tampa International Airport (TPA) sits about 9.5 miles from the cruise terminals in the Channel District, so the ride is short and fairly cheap. Below we compare the taxi flat rate, Uber and Lyft, cruise line transfers, the HART bus and the free streetcar, with prices checked against official sources as of October 2026. If you’re flying in the day before, start with our main guide to hotels near the Tampa cruise port.
Quick answer: The drive is about 9 to 9.5 miles and usually 15 to 20 minutes. TPA lists a flat $35 taxi fare to the cruise terminal. Uber’s own route data shows UberX averaging about $22 and UberXL about $34 between the port and the airport, plus a $5 airport service fee. Carnival’s transfer costs $24.99 per person each way. The cheapest option is a HART bus downtown plus the fare-free TECO Streetcar, but it’s slow with luggage.

Per HART, Route 30 runs hourly between the airport and downtown, 4:30 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 7 a.m. to midnight on weekends. Route 10 also serves the airport. Get off at Whiting Street and board the TECO Line Streetcar, which the streetcar’s official site lists as fare-free. Ride to Port Tampa Bay Station at McKay Street and Channelside Drive. Tips for the TPA-to-port trip
- Do the math for groups. Two people pay about $50 for Carnival’s transfer, while one taxi is a flat $35 for the car.
- Book an UberXL or a taxi if you have several big suitcases.
- Take the bus and streetcar only if you’re traveling light and have time. Route 30 runs once an hour.
- Fly in the day before if you can. Tampa is a short hop, but a delayed flight can still cost you the ship.
- Check your terminal number. Terminal 6 is on McKay Street, not Channelside Drive.
