Last updated: October 13, 2026 · By Ronen, Stay Near The Venue

Most cruisers sailing from Port Canaveral fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO), and the port is not next door. It’s about 45 miles east along the SR 528 toll road (the Beachline), so plan the transfer before you land. This guide compares cruise line transfers, shared shuttles, Uber, taxis and rental cars, and lists pre-cruise hotels that have cruise shuttles. If you’re staying near the ship, start with our main guide to hotels near Port Canaveral.

Quick answer: The drive from MCO to Port Canaveral takes about 45 minutes. On sailing day the cheapest options are shared shuttles (Go Port lists $29.99 per person each way) or Carnival’s own transfer (from $37.99 per person). Uber or Lyft usually costs roughly $55–$90 per car, and a taxi around $115–$130. Brightline trains do not go to the port.

Where to stay the night before: best areas

Flying in a day early is the safest plan, because cruise line and shared shuttles generally stop taking travelers whose flights land after about noon on sailing day. You can sleep at the airport and transfer in the morning, or go to the coast the evening you arrive.

Pre-cruise hotels at Orlando airport

  • Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport – Inside MCO’s main terminal, so there’s no hotel shuttle to wait for. In the morning you walk to the Terminal A shuttle counters. Good for late-night arrivals.
  • Courtyard Orlando Airport – About 45 miles from the port. It’s a pickup stop for Go Port’s hotel-to-port shuttle, and Cruzely notes Cortrans and Port Canaveral Quick Shuttle also serve it. A good mid-range choice.
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando Airport at Gateway Village – Free hot breakfast, and several shuttle companies pick up here, including Go Port, Cortrans, Port Canaveral Quick Shuttle and Danica. A good fit for families.

Pre-cruise hotels near the port with cruise shuttles

  • Radisson Resort at the Port – About 2.5–3 miles from the terminals. The hotel’s Stay and Cruise package includes a round-trip port shuttle, and an MCO airport shuttle runs $28 one way or $50 round trip per person (Choice Hotels). A good one-stop option for families.
  • SpringHill Suites Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach – A few minutes from the port. The cruise shuttle is $10.80 per person each way, and an MCO shuttle is $28 one way or $50 round trip (Marriott). Suites work well for groups.

Getting there, shuttles & parking

Distance and drive time

The official Port Canaveral directions say the port is about 45 minutes from MCO. Take the airport’s North Exit to SR 528 East, a toll road, and stay on it to the port. Use Exit 54A for the A terminals (CT-5, 6, 8 and 10) or Exit 54B for the B terminals (CT-1 and CT-3). The trip is roughly 45 miles.

Cruise line transfers

Carnival sells an MCO-to-port transfer from $37.99 per person. Your flight must land by 12:00 PM on sailing day, and service runs from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Royal Caribbean says airport-to-pier transfers on sailing day can be bought for an extra fee, but it doesn’t publish a Port Canaveral price, so check your cruise planner. Cruise line transfers go straight to your ship and are easy to book. For a family, though, they often cost more than a shared shuttle.

Shared shuttles

Independent shared shuttles are usually the cheapest option. Go Port lists $29.99 per traveler each way. You check in at its counter in Terminal A, Level 1, next to the rental car desks. Shuttles leave when full between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, and flights landing after noon need another option. Cruzely also names Cocoa Beach Shuttle, Cortrans, Port Canaveral Quick Shuttle and Orlando Cruise Line Connection. It found most round trips at about $50–$60+ per person.

Uber, Lyft and taxis

These fares aren’t fixed. Rideshare estimates run about $55–$90 one way depending on surge pricing (AllEars), and Cruzely puts it at about $80–$90 per car. A standard car fits about three people with luggage, so book an XL for bigger groups. Taxis run around $115 one way according to Cruzely, or about $130 for up to four people according to AllEars, using a TaxiFareFinder estimate. Port Canaveral rules require commercial transport fares to be pre-arranged and prepaid, so book your ride from the port back to the airport ahead of time.

Rental car

A rental makes sense if you’re adding Orlando theme park days. One-way rentals between Orlando and Port Canaveral exist but usually cost more. Budget for SR 528 tolls and for parking if you keep the car through the cruise.

Brightline does not go to the port

Brightline’s Orlando station is at MCO, but there is no train service to Port Canaveral. Train travelers from South Florida still need a shuttle or rideshare from the airport. A Cocoa station has been funded, but opening is expected around 2030, and it would sit about 15 miles from the terminals.

Parking at the port

Port parking rose to $20 per day plus tax on October 1, 2025, and it’s credit card only. Our Port Canaveral cruise parking guide compares port garages, off-site lots and hotel park-and-cruise deals.

Tips for a smooth transfer

  • Book a flight that lands by about 11:00 AM if you’re flying in on sailing day. Most shuttles stop taking late arrivals after noon.
  • Fly in a day early whenever you can. One delayed flight can cost you the cruise.
  • For four or more people, compare a rideshare XL against per-person shuttle fares. The car is often cheaper.
  • Pre-book your return from the port to MCO, because port rules require pre-arranged rides.
  • If you’re driving, use a toll transponder or pay-by-plate. SR 528 is a toll road.
  • Check whether your hotel’s cruise shuttle needs a reservation the night before. SpringHill Suites, for example, fills seats first-come, first-served.

FAQ

How far is Orlando airport from Port Canaveral?

About 45 miles, or roughly 45 minutes by car on the SR 528 toll road when traffic is normal.

What is the cheapest way from MCO to Port Canaveral?

For one or two travelers, a shared shuttle such as Go Port at $29.99 per person each way is usually cheapest. For groups of four or more, an Uber or Lyft split between everyone often costs less per person.

Can I take Brightline to Port Canaveral?

No. Brightline stops at Orlando International Airport, and you’ll need a shuttle, taxi or rideshare for the last 45 miles. A planned Cocoa station isn’t expected to open until around 2030.

Can I fly into Orlando on the day of my cruise?

Yes, but it’s risky. Carnival’s transfer requires your flight to land by 12:00 PM, and Go Port’s shuttles stop accepting flights that land after noon. Arriving the day before is much safer.
