Getting there, shuttles & parking
From the airport: According to Mayo Clinic’s Getting Here page, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is about 23 miles from the Scottsdale campus and about 26 miles from the Phoenix campus. Taxis, rideshare (Uber and Lyft), van services and rental cars are all available. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) is farther out, about 37 miles from Scottsdale and 45 miles from Phoenix. Mayo recommends having a car, especially if you aren’t staying on campus.
Intercampus shuttle: Mayo runs a free courtesy shuttle between the Scottsdale and Phoenix campuses, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., every half-hour (source). Mayo’s parking page also mentions a free shuttle from partner hotels and the Village at Mayo Clinic to the front entrance of either campus.
Parking: On the Phoenix campus, patients and visitors park in Lots A and B on the north side of the hospital. A free golf cart will take you from your lot to the front door. Valet parking is at the main entrances of Buildings 1, 2 and 3. It is free for patients with a valid accessible parking tag and $8 for all other patients. The Scottsdale campus has an underground garage with direct elevator access to the clinic building, plus surface lots (Mayo parking page).
Tips for patients and families
- Check which campus each appointment is on. Hospital admissions and surgery are on the Phoenix campus, and many clinic visits are in Scottsdale.
- Ask hotels for a Mayo patient rate and whether the shuttle covers your campus, because some hotel shuttles serve only one campus.
- Book hotel shuttles the day before when you can, and plan on a rideshare as a backup.
- For transplant or long-term cancer treatment, ask about The Village at Mayo Clinic, Mayo’s low-cost, on-site extended-stay casitas for families of out-of-town patients (480-609-1324).
- Summer heat in Phoenix is intense. Choose a hotel with covered parking or a door-to-door shuttle if walking in the heat is hard for you.
- Free wheelchairs and patient escorts are available on campus. Ask at an information desk.
