Hotels Near the Amsterdam Cruise Terminal (2026)

Last updated: October 25, 2026 · By Ronen, Stay Near The Venue

Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) is one of the few big cruise terminals in Europe that sits right in the city. It is on Piet Heinkade, along the IJ waterfront, a short walk east of Amsterdam Centraal. That means a pre- or post-cruise night here can double as a city break, with canals, museums and good food within easy reach.

This guide covers where to stay, real hotels near the terminal, and how to get there from Schiphol, with verified parking prices.

Amsterdam cruise changes to know in 2026

Amsterdam has been cutting back on cruise traffic. In 2024 the city reduced PTA to one ocean-going berth and capped calls at 100 per year from 2026. Some larger ships now dock at IJmuiden on the coast instead, so always check which terminal your cruise line lists.

In January 2026, the city’s executive recommended closing the city-center sea cruise terminal for good by 2035 instead of moving it to Coenhaven. That was a recommendation, not a final decision, and it was left to the city government formed after the March 2026 municipal elections. Cruise Port Amsterdam says the terminal remains fully operational and scheduled calls go ahead as planned.

With fewer ships in port, hotels near the terminal still fill up on sailing days, especially in spring and summer. Book early and choose free cancellation in case your itinerary or terminal changes.

Walking distance to the terminal

  • Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre – at Piet Heinkade 11, on the same waterfront street as PTA, and about 12 minutes on foot from Centraal. It has a spa, a gym, river-view rooms and secure on-site parking (listed at €53.40 per day as of October 2026). The easiest choice for a sailing-day morning.

Next to Amsterdam Centraal

  • DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station – at Oosterdoksstraat 4, right beside the station and on the side facing the terminal. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and there is a rooftop bar with views over the IJ. Good for travelers arriving by train from Schiphol.
  • NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace – at Prins Hendrikkade, directly opposite Centraal, set in restored 17th-century canal houses. It has a sauna, steam room and gym. Suits couples who want a historic setting for a night or two before sailing.

Best value

  • ibis Amsterdam Centre – at Stationsplein, about two minutes on foot from Centraal. Rooms are small and simple, but the location is hard to beat for the price. Best for budget travelers who only need a bed before boarding.

For families & quieter stays

  • Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam – on Java Island in the Eastern Docklands, right on the IJ. It has an indoor heated pool, a spa and a garden, which helps if you are traveling with kids. A short taxi ride to the terminal.
  • The Hoxton, Lloyd Amsterdam – in the former Lloyd Hotel on Oostelijke Handelskade, about three minutes on foot from the Rietlandpark stop on tram 26, which runs to the terminal. Larger “Biggy” rooms can come with bunk beds. Good for families and design fans.

Getting there, shuttles & parking

From Schiphol by train: Trains run about eight times an hour from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal, and the trip takes about 17 minutes, per I amsterdam. A one-way fare was listed at €4.90 as of October 2026. You can tap in and out with a contactless bank card.

From Centraal to PTA: The terminal is about a 15-minute walk from the station, per PTA’s website. Tram 26 toward IJburg leaves about every 10 minutes. Ride one stop to Muziekgebouw/Bimhuis, opposite the terminal.

Taxi: A taxi from Schiphol to the city center typically costs €35 to €55, per I amsterdam, and more at busy times. The drive takes about 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic, so it is barely faster than the train. Many cruise lines also sell their own transfers.

Parking at PTA: The Piet Heingarage sits at the terminal and is run by the City of Amsterdam. Per PTA’s website, as of October 2026, it costs €5.16 per hour or €51.60 per day, and spaces cannot be reserved. For a cheaper fixed rate, Q-Park Oostenburg sells Park & Cruise packages: €75 for 1 to 5 days, then €15 for each extra day, per Q-Park’s website. It is about a 20-minute walk from PTA, or a short ride on tram 26 from Rietlandpark.

Tips for your cruise stay

  • Check your cruise documents for the terminal. Some ships call at IJmuiden, a long way from central Amsterdam.
  • Arrive the day before. Flight delays are common, and the terminal is only minutes from many hotels.
  • Walking from Centraal is easy with rolling luggage, along a flat waterfront route.
  • Watch for bikes. Cycle lanes run almost everywhere, so look both ways before crossing with luggage.
  • Parking at PTA cannot be booked, so on busy days the Q-Park package gives more certainty.
