Quick answer: stay at or next to Canada Place to walk to your ship, or elsewhere in downtown for better value, a short walk or taxi away.

Getting from YVR to Canada Place
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is about 10 miles from Canada Place. The Canada Line SkyTrain runs from the airport to Waterfront Station, right next to the cruise terminal, in about 25 minutes.
Before you sail: three things worth booking ahead
Airport to hotel. If you land at YVR and would rather skip the taxi line, a pre-booked private transfer (Welcome Pickups or Kiwitaxi) gives you a fixed price and a driver waiting at arrivals.
Bags between checkout and boarding. Hotel checkout and boarding time rarely match. Radical Storage lets you leave your luggage for a few hours so you can enjoy the day hands-free before heading to Canada Place.
If you arrive a day early. A simple plan is a day around Stanley Park and the waterfront; you can browse tours and tickets on Klook before you go.

Vancouver embarkation-day timing
The terminal is at Canada Place, 999 Canada Place, next to Waterfront Station, which is served by the SkyTrain system. Boarding typically starts around 11 a.m. and continues into the afternoon, but your cruise line sets the schedule, so confirm your check-in window before you travel. The Waterfront and Gastown areas are walkable to the terminal, which makes a pre-cruise night downtown convenient.
Why the Canada Place location shapes your hotel choice
The Vancouver cruise terminal is at Canada Place, 999 Canada Place, on the downtown harbor, and it handles the bulk of the city’s Alaska-bound sailings through a season that generally runs from late April to September. Because the terminal is right downtown, you can stay within a short walk of the ship, and there are many hotel options within a few blocks. That convenience is the main reason most cruisers choose to spend at least a night in the city before sailing.
Start by deciding what kind of neighborhood you want. The streets around Coal Harbour and the waterfront are quiet and scenic, the Gastown area is lively with restaurants and bars, and the downtown core has the widest selection. Each of them keeps you within a short ride or walk of the terminal, so choose based on noise tolerance and budget instead of distance alone.
Getting in from the airport
Vancouver International Airport is reported to be around 8.6 miles from the cruise terminal, roughly a 25 to 30 minute trip depending on traffic. The Canada Line of the SkyTrain system connects the airport with downtown, and taxis, rideshares and shuttle companies also serve the route. Check current fares and schedules on the transit authority and airport websites.
If you are using the train, remember that you will be pulling luggage through stations and up and down stairs or escalators, so travel light or check elevator access. A taxi may be easier for large groups or for anyone with mobility needs. After a long flight, most people find that paying a little more to reach the hotel directly is worth it.
Documents, borders and what to check before you travel
Because Vancouver is in Canada, you need to confirm entry requirements for the country you are traveling from, and you should check the cruise line’s own document requirements. Rules on passports and visas depend on your citizenship and on whether your cruise begins or ends in Canada, so check the official government and cruise line pages well before departure instead of relying on a general summary.
Keep your passport and boarding documents together in your carry-on, not in checked bags, and look at the validity date. If you are traveling with children, check whether you need extra documentation. Doing this earlier than you think necessary is far cheaper than discovering a problem at the pier.
Spending the night before sailing in the city
Vancouver rewards even a short stay. Stanley Park and the seawall are among the city’s best-known outdoor attractions, and Gastown and the harbor front are easy to explore on foot. Check opening times and any seasonal changes on the official sites before you plan an itinerary.
Alaska cruises commonly begin early in the day, and the weather can be cool and damp even in summer, so bring a rain jacket. Avoid a heavy schedule on arrival day, since jet lag and long flights can make the afternoon feel longer than expected.
Booking, cancellation terms and sailing-day logistics
Hotels near Canada Place are in high demand during the cruise season, especially on days when several ships sail at once. Book a refundable room as soon as your cruise is confirmed, read the cancellation deadline carefully, and check whether taxes, parking and any extra fees are included in the displayed price.
On the morning you sail, ask your hotel about luggage storage, since the Vancouver terminal also has porter and baggage services. Leave a margin for walking to the terminal and for passing through check-in, and keep your documents and medications in a small bag that stays with you.
Accessibility, families and arrival-day comfort
If anyone in your party has limited mobility, ask the hotel about step-free entrances, elevator access and accessible rooms, and confirm how far the room is from the lift. The cruise terminal is reported to offer wheelchair accessibility and limited wheelchair rentals, but contact the cruise line in advance to arrange assistance. Families may prefer a room with two beds or a suite so that children can sleep while adults finish packing, and a kitchenette can help with early meals.
Vancouver is a hilly city in places, so check the walking route from your hotel to the pier if you plan to go on foot with luggage, and consider a short taxi ride instead.
Mistakes to avoid before an Alaska sailing from Vancouver
The most common problems are travel documents that do not meet the rules, flights booked too close to the boarding window, and hotels booked without checking the cancellation terms. Some travelers also assume that everything near the pier is within walking distance for a heavy suitcase, when a short taxi ride would have saved effort. Arrive the day before if you can, confirm your hotel booking in writing, and read both your airline and cruise line instructions carefully so that nothing about your departure comes as a surprise.
Canada Place, Vancouver: address, parking and SkyTrain access
According to Port of Vancouver, the Canada Place cruise terminal is at 999 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC V6C 3E1. The Canada Place parkade is run by Indigo Park Canada (604-669-7275) and offers 15 free minutes for pickups and drop-offs, with fees after that. Long-term parking has height limits of about 6 feet 6 inches (198 cm) on level P1 and about 6 feet 9 inches (205 cm) on level P2.
The terminal sits next to Waterfront Station, and the port notes that the SkyTrain Canada Line runs directly to Vancouver International Airport. Ride-hailing vehicles may only drop off on level P2 through the parkade entrances, and drop-offs on Canada Place Way, Howe Street and Cordova Street are prohibited. The port lists a taxi flat rate to the airport of $42. Check the port’s official page for current rules.
Pan Pacific Vancouver: what the hotel confirmed
We also asked Pan Pacific Vancouver about cruise guests. According to the hotel, as of October 2026, this is what it told us:
- No shuttle is needed. The hotel shares the same complex as the cruise terminal, and guests take an elevator from the lobby to the cruise terminal entrance.
- The hotel does not provide an airport shuttle. Guests can take a taxi, Uber or Lyft.
- The hotel parking is operated by Indigo. For long-term parking, guests need to contact Indigo to reserve and get rates.
Rates and availability can change, so confirm with the hotel and Indigo when you book.
Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront: what the hotel confirmed
We asked Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront (1133 West Hastings Street) about cruise guests. According to the hotel, as of October 8, 2026, this is what it offers:
- No shuttle to the cruise terminal. The Canada Place Cruise Terminal is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
- No airport shuttle.
- No stay-and-park package for cruise guests.
- Overnight parking at the hotel costs $47 CAD per vehicle per night, taxes included, subject to availability.
Because there is no shuttle, plan to walk to Canada Place or take a short taxi ride. Rates and availability can change, so confirm with the hotel when you book.
How we checked this guide
The “Last updated” date at the top of this page is when we last reviewed it end to end.
- Parking rates, shuttle fees and transport times are taken from the port’s, venue’s or operator’s own published pages and from each hotel’s own website — not from aggregator sites.
- Distances and journey times are the figures the venue or transit operator publishes, not our estimates. Where we give a distance, we say what it is measured to.
- Hotel amenities (breakfast, shuttle hours, pet and parking policies) come from each hotel’s own site. These change more often than anything else here, so confirm them when you book.
- Room rates are deliberately not listed anywhere on this site. They move daily, and a price written one month is wrong the next. Our links take you to live pricing instead.
- We have not stayed at every hotel we write about. Where we contacted a property directly, the guide says so and gives the date. Where a figure comes from a third-party report rather than an official source, we say that too.
